Belfast Ocean Breeze

SarahRating, 5 stars1 week ago
The Ocean Breeze in Belfast is a beautiful place. We stayed in the basement apartment. It is spacious and has a beautiful view of the ocean. The price per night is no joke..its a great price and William is a great host. The upstairs is rented and you can hear footsteps, however its not bad . Watching the sunrise from the beach this morning was amazing. I highly recommend this gem for anyone looking for a peaceful retreat or romantic getaway.

Cove House

We have been going to this area of Maine for over fifty years. I found this gem several years ago and haven’t stayed anywhere since. I find it to be peaceful, walkable to the center via footbridge, it’s all that we want. Kathy is a great host, quickly responds to any questions or needs you may have. We always know we will have a great experience staying here.

Patten Pond Cottage

BruceRating, 5 stars7 months ago
Seven stars out of five! We have stayed in numerous places in Maine over the years, and given a lot of five star reviews. This one surpasses them all, hence the off the charts grade. It is incredibly well provisioned, spotless, spacious, inviting, and has an enormous porch with a view so lovely it looks fake. You can't even hear your neighbors, let alone see them. We heard loons, crows, and one very belligerent owl, but not once did we hear our neighbors. The only way you will know the tenant is home, is that a car will park opposite on the side of the house from you. The fire pit makes it easy and convenient to host a fire, even if it is only for 45 minutes or so. Kayaks are provided along with life jackets. At night you can see millions of stars. Place is so peaceful and comfortable, we almost didn't make it into the park haha. We will definitely be back!

A beautiful house in a beautiful location! Beth was wonderful to deal with and very communicative. She kept in touch with us prior to our trip, and she patiently answered any questions we had during the trip. The views from the patio and living room are fantastic, and the area is very quiet. Both the Park and Bar Harbor are a short drive a way. This is a great place to stay on a trip to Bar Harbor.

Cozy Home on Orland River

VioletaRating, 5 stars6 months ago
We enjoyed our first day with beautiful views overlooking the Orland River. Period we spent pleasurable mornings and evenings on the deck between the river and the peak autumn foliage. The cottage has a well-stocked kitchen; the beds were comfortable and the ambiance was cozy and rustic. It is within an hour drive to Acadia, or Belfast. Lots to do, especially if you’re a nature lover. Another plus was how friendly, responsive, and proactive Matthew was. It was a pleasure having him as our host. Hope to come again.

We loved our stay! Josh and Megan are excellent hosts and very responsive. The cottage is restful with great views of the water. Great place for birding and close to several trails. It was a rainy weekend, but we were very comfortable staying inside while relaxing and playing games with the kids. Close enough to Ellsworth and Acadia, and the Pickled Wrinkle is a great local watering hole and restaurant, just a few miles away. We will definitely be back!

Acadia's Oceanfront CAMP - near Bar Harbor

NickRating, 5 stars1 week ago
This location is the best Airbnb experience we have ever had. The place was clean, comfortable and spacious for a waterside camp. We enjoyed the beautiful ocean views, serene and private wooded surroundings and Lura was a very hospitable host with not only providing this amazing place but also providing things to do in the area even when the weather was rainy. My wife and I rented this location for two nights as a getaway for our marriage in Acadia and it could not be more of a perfect experience. I would highly recommend this location to anyone who wants to experience Acadia and the surrounding areas. 10/10

Hobb’s House - Year Round Log Cabin on the Water

MelissaRating, 5 stars1 week ago
Connor was an AMAZING host! From the very beginning, he was always very responsive, and was consistently available to answer my questions promptly. His cabin on the lake was so cozy, it truly felt like our home away from home. It was beautifully decorated, peaceful, serene, well-stocked with anything that one could need. His recommendations were extensive and were very much appreciated. We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and really loved being able to stay there with friends for a few days before departing for another excursion. It gave us time to celebrate and make some great memories with them - something that we will always treasure! The worst thing about this cabin? - Having to leave it in the rearview mirror! Connor, thanks so much for sharing your beautiful cabin with us. You can count on us to be back in the future! Thank you!

Mini Maine Living

HopeRating, 5 stars6 months ago
My daughter and I stayed at Joan and Jim’s for two nights while we explored the area. Jim was there to greet us, show us around, and at night even started the fire for us! On our last night he took us on a sunset boat tour of the lake, told us stories all with Gemma the incredible cute sidekick cuddling with my daughter! The view of the lake, the peacefulness and the hospitality were all spectacular! The house is as described a tiny house with the bed in the loft with a low ceiling if you’re tall this might be an issue but was fine for us. As noted in some of the other comments, the toilet is now standard toilet and not compostable and the tiny home has been moved so you really get to look out at the lake. Overall, our stay was amazing and no doubt why they get super host status!!

Your guide to Bar Harbor

All About Bar Harbor

For generations, New Englanders have retreated to this craggy stretch of Maine’s coast, where lobster boats bob in the misty harbors of Frenchman Bay, and miles of pristine wilderness make this corner of the United States feel just as untamed as ever. Mount Desert Island is home to one of the top 10 most-visited national parks in the country, and Bar Harbor is the gateway. More than three million visitors come through each year, many on their way to explore the wilds of Acadia National Park, others just to soak in the charm of New England village life, from Northeast Harbor to Southwest Harbor to Bass Harbor (are you sensing a theme?). Clearly, the water defines life in these parts, whether you’re planning a kayak or canoe trip around the Porcupine Islands, or a creamy lobster roll at a seaside eatery in Hulls Cove.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Bar Harbor

There are several glorious weeks between July and Labor Day when Mainers can finally swap their long johns for T-shirts, and naturally that’s the time when the state is flooded with visitors. Bar Harbor’s most popular locations are the most crowded in summer, when temperatures inch above 65 degrees Fahrenheit, peaking at around 73 degrees in mid-July. Fall is chillier, but you’re rewarded with sparser crowds and stunning foliage. By January, the mercury rarely gets above freezing, dipping to around 16 degrees overnight. These harsh winters and sublime summers mean that many Bar Harbor attractions are extremely seasonal. So if you’re planning to visit in the off-season, don’t expect much to be open — and definitely book a rental with a hot tub and fireplace.

Top things to do in Bar Harbor

Acadia National Park

With environments ranging from rocky beaches to forests to granite mountain peaks, this 47,000-acre recreational area feels like a country in and of itself. You can explore more than 150 miles of hiking trails and 45 miles of carriage roads on foot, by bike, or on horseback, while possibly crossing paths with a moose, bear, or other local wildlife. Get up early to trek 1,530 feet to the top of Cadillac Mountain, the highest point on the North Atlantic seaboard, and you’ll be rewarded with views of the earliest sunrise in the United States (between October and March).

Abbe Museum

Stop in at this Smithsonian-affiliated museum to learn about the history and culture of Maine’s indigenous Wabanaki people. The museum maintains its original location inside the national park from June through September, and operates a second branch in downtown Bar Harbor that is open all year (except January).

Whale watching

The Gulf of Maine is a playground for several species of whale, including humpbacks, finbacks, and minkes. It’s possible to spot them from shore, or you could get up closer with a wildlife cruise. Expert-led excursions depart from the Bar Harbor pier daily from May to October.
