Champlain Lakehouse

ValerieRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
Annie’s place is wonderful. I go with friends at least twice a year. It is quiet and the view of the lake is beautiful! I love seeing Camels Hump. It is also incredibly close to Burlington if you do feel like going in and exploring, eating out. I find it is always clean and incredibly comfortable. One of my friends here this last time said” that was the best nights sleep I have had in forever!” He is not alone! This is a very special place!

Pine Ridge Lodge near Whiteface

Alecia And ZackRating, 5 stars1 month ago
This cabin is beautiful! We stayed here for our wedding weekend with friends and family. Plenty of space. Linens and extra towels for everyone. Everything in the cabin is well labeled which makes it easy for finding light switches and such. Details in the cabin are incredible and make the stay that much more beautiful. The owners have an online welcome directory that is very detailed and so helpful. And the master suite was just the most amazing area of the cabin. It was perfect for the bridal party to get around and the giant walk in closet was able to accommodate all of our wedding stuff and helped keep us organized. Honestly we wish we never had to leave this cabin!

Cheerful 3-Bedroom Home (Newly Renovated!)

DavidRating, 5 stars6 days ago
The house was clean and well appointed with nice furniture that went with the home well. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen had the basics for cooking. And the coffee station was very well done. Overall, we had a wonderfully peaceful stay and would recommend staying at Ashley's place.

Cottage with sunset view and much more

JoeRating, 5 stars1 month ago
Ana's cottage was a perfect place to get away for a weekend. I had a destination wedding and when I told people the price and the fact they provided a canoe and kayaks because it was located on the water there were in shock because their hotel room was double the price. Definitely would stay there again if I ever travel that way.

Great location for either an active or relaxed vacation. We only used the upstairs with two couples, but the downstairs would be great for kids to have their own handout spaces.

Spacious Eco-Friendly Stowe Home for Family Fun

LindsayRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
Susan’s place was lovely! My family, my parents and my brother’s family take this trip once a year and this house was perfect for spending quality time. The main floor was so cozy with the fire place and the windows over looking the foliage. It allowed for puzzles at the huge dining room table, the chef (me) cooking in the kitchen, the others watching a movie or football in the living room and we still all felt together - perfect!!! Susan was flexible, friendly and gave clear instructions. We’d definitely stay again!

Your guide to Burlington

Welcome to Burlington, Vermont

The state’s largest metropolis has just 42,545 residents, but packs a world-class punch with cafes, museums, a thriving arts scene, and year-round outdoor adventures, plus a renowned university. It’s also the first U.S. city to run on 100 percent renewable electricity.

Burlington overlooks the Adirondack Mountains and 120-mile-long Lake Champlain, which divides Vermont from New York State. But its heart beats in the downtown pedestrian mall of Church Street Marketplace. This national historic district protects buildings from 1820 to 1964, including architectural styles ranging from Italianate to Queen Anne, Federal, and Greek Revival, along with some Art Deco and Modernist outliers. But somehow it all works, anchored by Courthouse Square and an 1816 brick Unitarian meeting house. Nearby sprawls the Burlington Waterfront Park with its beaches, boats, and an eight-mile bike path linking parks and green spaces. Take time to linger in this eclectic community, which marries urban intellectualism with bucolic rural Vermont beauty and traditions.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Burlington

This lakeside city shines brightest from May to September, making it a popular time for people to book vacation rentals. The festival schedule bustles then, and the trees fill the area with lush greenery, which deepens into glorious hues perfect for leaf-peeping day trips to nearby Middlebury and Jeffersonville. Shoulder season isn’t the best in Burlington. April brings fewer crowds but often lots of mud. And November sees the city pause for a deep breath before the winter tourism onslaught of skiers and snowboarders. Events-wise, turn to February’s Lake Champlain Pond Hockey Classic and June’s jazz festival, followed by New England’s oldest and largest quilt event in nearby Essex Junction. Expect dragon boating in August, along with street performers for the Festival of Fools.

Top things to do in Burlington

Burlington Earth Clock

An art installation dedicated to peace looks like a 43-foot-diameter prehistoric stone circle on Lake Champlain’s shores. In reality, it’s a giant sundial that relies on visitors to stand in the central gnomon position and cast their shadows. It lies at Blanchard Beach, on the bike path just north of the popular sunset-watching spot of Oakledge Park.

Lake Champlain Monster Monument

What’s a big landlocked body of water without the specter of a massive, rarely spied serpentine creature? In 1984, the state erected a granite block on Perkins Pier just south of downtown to honor Burlington’s local legend: “Champ,” a prehistoric Nessie-esque beast. It even bears the cryptid’s pseudoscientific name, Belua aquatica champlainiensis. And just in case Champ really is out there, both Vermont and New York have passed laws protecting their lake’s most legendary monster.

Shelburne Museum

Eight miles south of Burlington sits a 45-acre museum celebrating Americana. Its founder celebrated everyday objects, from quilts to pottery and weather vanes. Eventually she began adding historic buildings to house these collections, including a lighthouse, round barn, covered bridge, and the Lake Champlain side-wheeler steamship Ticonderoga.
