We really loved our stay at this condo!! It was very spacious and comfy. It had all the basics we needed to feel right at home. We loved having a fire while rewinding after a long day of skiing. The view from the deck is absolutely beautiful! The shuttle stop is nearby, and the shuttle service is quick as well with a phone call. We would love to stay again during our next trip to Snowshoe!

Snowshoe Mountain Lodge Slope Side Retreat 126/124

AshleyRating, 5 stars2 months ago
Location, location, location! It's an old lodge but the space has been updated some and you can tell it's rented a lot. But the location is worth it not being brand new. You walk out the back door right at the ski lift. Restaurants , shopping, all within a short walking distance. The space had everything we needed to cook, plenty of linens, blankets, pillows, and towels. It even has a boot warmer! We had a wonderful experience and I would definitely stay at this place again.

Hutch 1- 2 Min Walk to Slopes, Great Mountain View

JosephRating, 5 stars1 month ago
I could NEVER tire of the view from the hutch and the sunsets were spectacular! Host was extremely responsive and helpful. There were plenty of linens and although the kitchen is small, it fit our needs and had PLENTY of dish ware for a lot of people. We ate most of our meals in although there are a lot of great restaurants that are walkable from the hutch or just catch the shuttle (including a really good food truck that was right across the street!). It’s not a true ski in/out but it’s very close and very walkable. Our kids even walked with their ski boots on. We loved our stay and made so many memories!

Luxury village/slope view studio, walk to dine

Jenny’s condo in Rimfire Lodge was truly beautiful and well thought out in the layout with a great use of the space. The beds were comfy and the location in the village is unmatched. She was great to share local recs for restaurants and very clear check in and check out instructions. She was very accessible for questions. We would absolutely choose her lovely condo again in the future for a stay at Snowshoe.

Snowshoe 2-bed, 2-bath, Slopeside @ Silver Creek

AllysonRating, 5 stars1 month ago
I stayed at Michael's place for a Spring ski trip to Snowshoe, and had a great stay. He gave excellent directions both to the location and to the unit, and was very responsive to my questions. The place was very comfortable and had a lot of space, and the kitchen had a great assortment of cooking utensils and essentials. The shuttle is very convenient for travel to the main village, so although the Silver Creek ski area was closed when I went, I still had very easy access to the slopes. I would happily stay here again.

We really enjoyed this condo which is thoughtfully designed and outfitted for skiers. The large sectional is so comfortable after a day on the slopes and the big dining table is perfect for family meals and playing games. The bathrooms are large with lots of storage with plenty of towels. We especially liked the large soaking tub in the primary suite. The kitchen has good quality cookware and utensils. The views are terrific and the location is great for getting on the slopes right outside. The building has two spacious outdoor hot tubs with an amazing view of the stars in this remote area.

Village Central Updated Views Ski in/out ES211

This efficiency studio had everything we needed for a last minute trip to Snowshoe before all the snow melted! I appreciated the refrigerator with freezer, stocked kitchen, and the bed was so comfortable both of my kids commented on it — and even the pillows! We opted for the calmer pace of Expedition Station versus the kid chaos of Mountain Lodge for this trip, and we all agreed it was a great choice. Overall a great time on the mountain!

King Bed Slope Side Retreat in Village Central

MelanieRating, 5 stars1 month ago
This was such a nice cozy place. I’ve stayed at a lot of properties at Snowshoe, some in the same building with the same layout as this one, this for sure was the coziest and the cleanest. Had a nice mountain feel to it without the cabin like decor with beers and moose patterns everywhere. Chris’s place actually felt like a home, with nice furniture and a soft fluffy rug. Clean kitchen and bathroom. Great view of the village. Easy walk right from the elevator. He was very friendly, we never had any issues with the property itself but I did need to contact him about a problem of my own and he was very responsive and extremely helpful. This is our new favorite rental and Allegheny Springs is our favorite place to stay! The pool and hot tub are so convenient and you can access the pizza place from inside the building which is great on a cold windy night. We will definitely be back to this place! Thanks so much Chris!!

Your guide to Snowshoe

Introduction

From the Chesapeake to the power brokers of the Beltway, the Mid-Atlantic Region has many assets, but world-class winter sports are not among them. The mountains of West Virginia may not be Aspen or Mammoth, but they’re the best available substitute. Located 4.5 hours from D.C., Snowshoe Mountain delivers everything you want in a ski getaway: 61 trails and a 1,500-foot vertical drop to carve by day, and a cozy village with all the apres-ski amenities, from steaming mugs of fireside cocoa to luxurious spas. If downhill skiing’s not your style, there’s also snowmobiling, tubing, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. And in the summer, there’s mountain biking, golf, and canoeing on Shavers Lake. The surrounding Pocahontas County is a treasure trove of natural beauty when it comes to scenic drives and hiking trails — you can even eavesdrop on galaxies far, far away at the Green Bank Observatory.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Snowshoe

As the name implies, winter in Snowshoe is all about the snow — of which it gets its fair share. Now, we’re not talking Rocky Mountains-level powder dumps, but you can expect a respectable 180 inches of snowfall at the summit over the course of the winter (December to March). Summer is a warm and pleasant time to book one of the area’s vacation rentals, with temperatures in the 70s Fahrenheit, and spring and fall call for jackets and scarves. Rain is always a possibility, so don’t forget an umbrella.

Top things to do in Snowshoe

Cass Scenic Railroad State Park

Twenty minutes east of Snowshoe, the Cass Scenic Railroad State Park is a throwback to the turn of the 20th century, when the railroad first came to town and steam engines carried lumber from Bald Knob, West Virginia’s highest peak. The 11-mile track and its century-old locomotive are still functional, but these days they’re used to ferry tourists, not spruce, through the mountains.

Cranberry Mountain Nature Center and Highland Scenic Highway

From mid-April to mid-October, you can take a cruise along the Highland Scenic Highway and wind up at the 750-acre Cranberry Glades Botanical Area, home to the largest concentration of cranberry bogs in the state and the strange carnivorous plants that grow in them. Visit the Nature Center to learn more about this fascinating ecosystem and arrange a guided tour of the bogs.

Green Bank Observatory

Up here in the mountains of West Virginia, scientists are listening. Using a massive radio telescope the size of two football fields, they try to detect signals so faint that all other frequencies across the vast 13,000-square-mile National Radio Quiet Zone must be silenced in order to hear them. Some nearby residents can’t even use wi-fi or own microwaves. This silence has allowed for the discovery of pulsars, neutron stars, and other space phenomena. Here on earth, visitors can take a self-guided walking tour and explore its network of bike trails.
